3Create a project
In Site Connect a project is a job site. Tasks, the schedule, check-ins, photos and hours all belong to a project, so set up the job you'll run first. It takes about five minutes.
Menu: ›
Before you start
- Who should do this: an admin, or anyone whose role can create tasks. Turning on check-in is admin-only.
- You'll need: the job's name and street address.
- Address: hub.siteconnect.ai/projects — menu Project › List.
The flow at a glance
Your teamSite ConnectDecisionBlockedDone
Only the name is always required. If your company has made the address mandatory in Project › Settings, the form asks for it too. Without check-in turned on, nobody can check in on the project's tasks. A distance limit only works when the project has an address on the map — without one, check-ins are accepted anywhere.
Create the project
- Open the form
In the left menu, go to Project › List and select Create project (top right).
- Name it
Type the Project name — for example "Maple Street Duplex".
- Place it on the map
Under Project address, type the street address, press Search and pick the right match. The pin drops on the map. (No match? Click the map to drop the pin yourself.)
- Pick a colour
Pick a Project colour. Its tasks use this colour on the Scheduling board, which makes a busy week easy to read.
- Optional details
Choose a Project manager, the Team that runs the job, the Stage, and the Start date and End date.
- Turn on check-in
See the next section. Do it now if you're an admin.
- Who sees the tasks
Leave Who in the project can see tasks? on Public to the whole workspace for your trial. You can tighten it later.
- Create it
Select Create project.
You'll see Project created, and the project's page opens.
Why the address matters
The address puts the job on the Project map, gives your crew a Directions button in the app, and is the point Site Connect measures from when someone checks in.
Turn on check-in for the project
Your crew can only check in and out of this project's tasks when check-in is on. It's off for new projects, so don't skip this.
- On the create form (or later on the project's Settings tab), tick Enable check-in for this project.
- Decide how strict to be:
- Check-in required — people must check in before they can start their part of a task.
- Allow check-in away from the project address — on by default: people can check in from anywhere and the distance is simply recorded. Turn it off to refuse check-ins outside a radius you set on the map.
- Save the project. On the Settings tab, a short summary under the switch shows what's in force.
Start relaxed
For the first week, keep Allow check-in away from the project address on. You'll still see who checked in where on the Check-in map, without anyone getting stuck at the gate because their phone's GPS is slow.
More options — check-in days, forms on check-in and check-out, requiring a location — are in Inside a project › On-site check-in.
Look around the project page
The project page has tabs for everything about the job:
- Overview — open and late tasks, hours against plan, who's working on it, latest site photos.
- Task — the project's tasks. You'll add some in the next step.
- Work hours — the hours people logged here by checking in.
- Members — everyone who has a task on the job or has checked in there.
- Finance — contract value and estimated profit, for people allowed to see money.
- Image — the latest photos taken on the project's tasks.
- Settings — project details, check-in, and who can see the tasks.
See Inside a project for each tab.
Optional: settings for all projects
Project › Settings holds the rules for every project in your workspace — your list of stages, whether the address is required, automatic check-out of forgotten check-ins, working hours, and whether your crew can accept or decline scheduled tasks. The defaults work well for a trial; come back to them once you've run a few days. See Project settings.
Check your work
- [ ] The project shows on Project › List with its address.
- [ ] Enable check-in for this project is ticked on the project's Settings tab.
- [ ] The project has a colour you'll recognize on the Scheduling board.
