Teams / Departments

Teams and departments describe how your company is organized — for example Field operations › Framing crew or Office › Estimating. They're arranged as a tree, so a department can have sub-departments. Each employee belongs to one team, and the team shows up across Site Connect: in the employee list, in filters, when granting annual leave to a whole department, and on invitations.

Where to find it

Menu: HR › Teams / Departments · Address: hub.siteconnect.ai/teamsWho can use it: Admins by default. Other roles need the Teams / Departments permission to view, create, edit or deactivate — see Roles and permissions.

What you see

The Department page shows how many departments you have and how many are top-level, followed by the tree. Each department shows its code, its member count, and underneath, its manager, office and description. Use Search by name or code... to find one, and tick Show inactive too to include departments you've deactivated (they're marked Inactive).

Select a department to expand it. You'll see its members and three actions: Edit, Add members and Deactivate.

Create a department

  1. Select Create department.
  2. Fill in:
    • Parent team (optional) — leave it on None — a top-level team, or pick the department this one sits under.
    • Team name * — for example Framing crew.
    • Team code * — a short code, for example FRAME.
    • Status — Active or Inactive.
    • Description — optional.
    • Team lead — the manager of this department.
    • Office — one of your locations.
  3. Select New team.

Add people to a department

  1. Expand the department and select Add members.
  2. Search for employees and tick the ones you want. The count of selected people appears below the list.
  3. Select Add n members.

Each person belongs to one department at a time, so adding someone here moves them out of their previous department.

You can also set a person's department when you add the employee, or later with Transfer team on their employee record — that keeps a dated history of the move.

Remove someone from a department

Expand the department, hover over the person and select the remove icon, then confirm with Remove. The person stays in your workspace; they just no longer belong to that department.

Edit or move a department

Expand it and select Edit. You can rename it, change its code, manager, office or description, or choose a different Parent team to move it (and everything under it) elsewhere in the tree.

Deactivate a department

  1. Expand it and select Deactivate.
  2. Confirm with Deactivate.

Move the members out and deactivate any sub-departments first — Site Connect won't deactivate a department that still has active sub-departments. Deactivated departments disappear from pickers but keep their history. To bring one back, tick Show inactive too, expand it and select Activate.

Good to know

  • Department managers matter for approvals that route to a person's manager, so keep the Team lead up to date.
  • To grant annual leave to a department and everything under it in one go, use Bulk-grant leave on Annual leave.
  • The org chart is drawn separately — departments don't appear on it until you add them.
